Short peptides / Research guide

LL-37.

A little deeper. A clearer picture.

A 37-residue chain from the cathelicidin precursor. LL identifies the two leucines at the beginning of the reference sequence.

01 / Molecular architecture

A closer look at the chain.

The LL-37 segment is distinct from the complete precursor in UniProt P49913. Its 37 residues define a specific chain, while terminal chemistry and counterions require separate identification.

Reference information: [1][2]. Actual lot identity must be verified separately.

A segment is not the entire precursor.

The LL-37 designation refers to a defined segment. A database page for its precursor can provide context, but the precursor’s full sequence and mass should not be copied into a specification for the smaller peptide.

Keep terminal chemistry explicit.

An amide at the chain ending changes the chemical form. The cited supplier page explicitly names an amide; this guide keeps that qualifier visible without applying it to a Pioneer lot whose terminal form is not documented here.

Research & analytical context.

UniProt records the precursor and its LL-37 segment. The cited supplier reference describes an amidated form; it does not establish the terminal group or salt form supplied by Pioneer.

The distinction that matters

Do not treat the complete precursor, related fragments and an amidated LL-37 reference as interchangeable materials. Match the supplied form to its own documentation.

03 / From reference to record

Know the lot, too.

A publication describes its own test material. Your lot’s certificate describes what was tested on that lot. Keep the compound name, batch number and reported methods together when reviewing a result.

Identity & composition

Check sequence or chemical form, terminal modifications, counterion and—where relevant—each blend component.

Analytical results

Read purity, content, sterility and endotoxin results as separate measurements. Only call a test passed when the actual report supports it.

Handling & storage notes

Lyophilized material: Store at −20°C; protect from light and moisture.

Follow the material-specific label and supporting storage documentation. These temperatures do not establish a shelf life.

04 / Reference questions

A few details, explained.

Does 37 describe the vial size?

No. It describes the reference chain length. The selected vial size is a separate mass in milligrams.

Can a reference sheet replace a batch report?

No. A reference identifies a described chemical form. A batch report must identify the actual lot and state the measurements performed on that material.
