Short peptides / Research guide

VIP.

A little deeper. A clearer picture.

A peptide reference with 28 amino acids. The compound name, chain length and mass in a vial describe different aspects of the material.

01 / Molecular architecture

A closer look at the chain.

The VIP reference is a 28-residue peptide with a C-terminal amide. The UniProt precursor record includes processed peptides; the complete precursor is not the same material as the VIP segment.

  • 28-residue reference
  • C-terminal amide
  • Distinct processed peptide
Structural features shown schematically, not a full sequence or three-dimensional model.

Reference information: [1][2]. Actual lot identity must be verified separately.

Read the processed peptide separately.

The precursor record provides the larger sequence context. For VIP, distinguish the processed peptide from other segments in that record before comparing any sequence or mass information.

A size selection changes mass, not identity.

The 10mg label records the material mass offered per vial. It does not describe the number of residues or establish purity, identity or analytical content; those are separate items in the relevant documentation.

Research & analytical context.

The cited records describe the VIP reference and its precursor. The supplier page lists a trifluoroacetate reference form, which is not a declaration of the salt supplied by Pioneer.

The distinction that matters

Use the exact peptide and chemical form when comparing records. A precursor sequence or a related peptide cannot substitute for a lot-specific identity record.

03 / From reference to record

Know the lot, too.

A publication describes its own test material. Your lot’s certificate describes what was tested on that lot. Keep the compound name, batch number and reported methods together when reviewing a result.

Identity & composition

Check sequence or chemical form, terminal modifications, counterion and—where relevant—each blend component.

Analytical results

Read purity, content, sterility and endotoxin results as separate measurements. Only call a test passed when the actual report supports it.

Handling & storage notes

Lyophilized material: Store at −20°C; protect from light and moisture.

Follow the material-specific label and supporting storage documentation. These temperatures do not establish a shelf life.

04 / Reference questions

A few details, explained.

Does a 10mg vial have a ten-residue chain?

No. Milligrams measure mass. The VIP reference has 28 amino acids, independent of the catalog size.

Is the cited trifluoroacetate form a Pioneer specification?

No. That salt belongs to the external supplier reference. Use the supplied lot’s documentation to establish the chemical form actually provided.
