Hormone analogs / Research guide

Ipamorelin.

A little deeper. A clearer picture.

Five residues, including several deliberately unusual building blocks. Ipamorelin was developed as a peptide growth-hormone secretagogue.

01 / Molecular architecture

A closer look at the chain.

Its reference sequence is Aib–His–D-2-Nal–D-Phe–Lys–NH₂. Aib is alpha-aminoisobutyric acid; D-2-Nal is a D-configured naphthylalanine. The C-terminus is amidated.

Reading the nonstandard residues.

Aib and D-2-Nal are not abbreviations for a pair of extra peptides. They identify individual building blocks within ipamorelin’s five-residue chain. D-2-Nal includes a naphthyl group, while the D prefix specifies stereochemistry. A simplified diagram that removes these qualifiers no longer fully describes the reference backbone.

The ending is part of the molecule.

The NH₂ notation describes an amidated C-terminus. It does not add a sixth amino acid. Residue names describe the chain’s building blocks, while terminal notation describes the chemistry at its end; both are needed to distinguish the reference from a similarly written peptide with a free-acid terminus.

02 / Read the evidence

Research & analytical context.

The reference chain contains Aib and D-configured residues, with an amidated C-terminus. These features distinguish ipamorelin from a chain made only of standard L-amino acids. Residue identity, stereochemistry and the terminal group all belong in the specification.

The distinction that matters

An experimental selectivity profile is not a blanket safety statement. Ipamorelin is also structurally distinct from GHRH-derived peptides such as sermorelin.

03 / From reference to record

Know the lot, too.

A publication describes its own test material. Your lot’s certificate describes what was tested on that lot. Keep the compound name, batch number and reported methods together when reviewing a result.

Identity & composition

Check sequence or chemical form, terminal modifications, counterion and—where relevant—each blend component.

Analytical results

Read purity, content, sterility and endotoxin results as separate measurements. Only call a test passed when the actual report supports it.

Handling & storage notes

Lyophilized material: Store at −20°C; protect from light and moisture.

Follow the material-specific label and supporting storage documentation. These temperatures do not establish a shelf life.

04 / Reference questions

A few details, explained.

What do the D prefixes tell me?

They identify the configuration of the specified residues. Keeping the residue name while removing its D prefix can change the molecular identity being described.

Is ipamorelin a GHRH fragment?

Its reference is a distinct pentapeptide, rather than the 29-residue GHRH fragment used to describe sermorelin. A shared research category does not mean the molecules share a backbone.
